Volunteering

We are recruiting volunteers to provide webchat, email and phone advice. Your role will be working from home for the time being until government guidelines deem it safe to return to a normal working environment.

As a volunteer adviser you’ll be helping our clients with issues such as benefits, debt, housing and employment, during and post coronavirus.

You’ll explore their problems, find and explain information to them and help them understand their options. Sometimes you will signpost and refer clients for further help. When appropriate you will support clients to take action themselves.

Some clients will have one specific issue, such as completing a benefits form, or switching energy provider; others may have a range of issues, for example, they have recently been made redundant and need to claim benefits, and sort out financial and housing problems.

Although some client queries can be complex, advisers have access to Supervisor support at all times and can arrange appointments for clients with specialist advisers where appropriate.

What are we looking for?

Whatever your experience, skills or interests we can offer a role that will give you the chance to meet new people, learn new things and make a difference to the people around you.

Our clients come from a range of backgrounds, cultures and abilities, so it is important to us that our people do too. It means that we have volunteers from all walks of life, adding to the diversity of our organisation and bringing their experiences to benefit us and the people we support.

Our volunteer roles are varied, challenging and rewarding and our volunteers really enjoy being able to make a valuable contribution and a positive impact on people’s lives. Volunteering with us is a great way to, use and gain skills, make friends and feel part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team.

We offer excellent progression opportunities, free training and the opportunity to undertake a recognised qualification. We PAY your expenses too!

You don’t need any specific qualifications or experience. You’ll need to be friendly and approachable and have a respect for views, values and cultures that are different to your own. Some roles may require you to have basic IT skills, be a good listener, or have good written skills.

If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer and believe that you could make a valid contribution to our organisation, please email hr@whcab.org.uk or phone 01707260934 for further information and an informal chat.

Thank you for your interest in Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield, and we very much look forward to hearing from you!
